Anti-Virus Management

Many companies fail to realize that how well you protect your network is more important as the data you store on it. Viruses can do more than delete files and crash servers.  Many times...viruses do a lot of things you don't see. Things like

  • Steal your passwords
  • Steal your credit card information
  • Store in your computers memory and slow it down

Here's a checklist to see if maybe you are vulnerable...

  1. Do your office workers have Anti-Virus software on their machines.?
    • When was the last time it was updated?
    • How often does it get updated?
    • How does it get updated (Internet, LAN, Desk to Desk)?
  2. Do your office workers use instant messaging software. (Yahoo Instant Messenger, Windows Messenger)?
  3. Do they have any Peer to Peer file sharing programs (I-mesh, Kazaa, WinMX, LimeWire)?
  4. How is your Firewall configured?  Do you have one?
  5. How are your servers protected?
  6. Are you connected to the Internet?
  7. Do you have E-mail?
  8. How do you know that an attachment you receive is not infected?
  9. When was the last time you checked the Microsoft website for security updates?
  10. Is your administrator password "PASSWORD" or "abc123"

If you have trouble answering any of these questions or if your answer questions 2, 3 or 8 is Yes.  It is only a matter of time before your office will be receiving an unpleasant visit.
